If you love the montains

The Asturian mountains are vast and breathtaking. The most iconic of them is the Picos de Europa National Park—a true paradise for hiking, nature lovers, and adventure sports.

Royal Site of Covadonga Shrine

Within the park, one of the essential stops is the Real Sitio de Covadonga (93 km), a sacred pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin of Covadonga. Here you'll find the impressive Basilica and the Holy Cave. From this point, the road to the Covadonga Lakes begins—an unforgettable natural wonder.

Please note: Access to the lakes is restricted during peak season. Private vehicles are not allowed, but a shuttle bus service is available. Be sure to check schedules and availability in advance.

Cares Route:

To explore the famous Cares Route from the Asturian side, head to Poncebos (138 km). This 24 km linear trail connects the villages of Caín and Poncebos, offering spectacular scenery along deep gorges and steep cliffs. It can be started from either end, but as it’s not a circular route, you'll need to return the same way. To make it easier, many hikers choose to walk one way and arrange a taxi for the return.

Bulnes

The remote village of Bulnes, unreachable by road and tucked deep in the mountains, feels like a place where time has stood still. You can reach it either via a steep, scenic hiking trail (recommended for experienced hikers), or by taking the Bulnes funicular from Poncebos. Important: During high season, parking near Poncebos is very limited, so it’s advisable to use the shuttle service from Arenas de Cabrales. Bulnes is a truly special place—quiet, authentic, and unforgettable.

If you love the coast

The Asturian coastline stretches for miles, a wild and breathtaking edge where towering cliffs meet rolling green meadows and the cold, crystal-clear waters of the Cantabrian Sea.

From east to west, over 200 beaches await—most of them unspoiled and deeply connected to nature. Some are hidden treasures, tucked between cliffs and accessible only on foot, offering true serenity. Others are easier to reach and offer full services, perfect for a relaxed day by the sea. Choosing among Asturias' many beaches is no easy task, but a few names stand out: Torimbia, Cuevas del Mar, Ballota, Playa del Silencio, and Gulpiyuri. Each is unique, yet they all share a common trait—they are untouched, rarely crowded, and truly peaceful. Little slices of paradise where time seems to slow down. But the coast isn’t just about beaches. Take time to explore some of the region’s most picturesque fishing villages—Cudillero, Tazones, Llanes, Ribadesella, or Lastres. These charming towns offer not only stunning views, but also a chance to savour Asturias’ rich culinary heritage, where the sea meets the table in unforgettable ways.
